Unofficial Rave Racer PC Version Released Through Namco System 22 Project

An unofficial PC version of the arcade racing game Rave Racer has been released for download as part of the Namco System 22 games for PC initiative. The namco22-decompile project currently supports Rave Racer, Dirt Dash, Tokyo Wars, and Prop Cycle, and it offers advantages over MAME such as no BIOS requirement, widescreen support, and resolutions up to 4K. The download does not include game assets, so users must provide their own ROM files.
The release comes from a decompilation effort focused on Namco System 22 arcade hardware. At present, the project lists four compatible titles: Rave Racer, Dirt Dash, Tokyo Wars, and Prop Cycle. It aims to eventually cover more games from that board family.
Compared with MAME, this build reportedly skips the arcade BIOS requirement and adds widescreen and resolutions up to 4K. The package itself contains no game data, so players must supply their own ROM files. Time Crisis, Alpine Racer, and Ace Combat 22 used Super System 22, so their inclusion remains uncertain.
For arcade racing enthusiasts and preservation-minded players, this release could make a niche 1990s title easier to run on modern PCs, with widescreen and high-resolution support. Because users must supply ROMs, its reach may remain limited to those who already own or can obtain the original data. It may also encourage more decompilation efforts, though questions around rights and distribution could shape how such projects are received by platform holders and publishers.
