Magic: The Gathering’s Reality Fracture reshapes Commander decks

Polygon’s review calls Reality Fracture one of the strongest Magic: The Gathering sets in years, largely because its cards are fun to open and powerful enough to rebuild Commander decks. Each play booster includes two Echoed Pair cards—one from the traditional Multiverse and one from Jace’s Echoverse—plus a rare-or-mythic slot and a foil slot that can also contain a rare or mythic. The set’s standout cards include Echoverse Garruk, Veiled Butcher, and Garruk, Curse Breaker, which the reviewer added to a Multani, Maro-Sorcerer deck.
Polygon’s Corey Plante reviewed Reality Fracture on Sept. 29, 2026. The expansion’s play boosters pair a Multiverse character with a Jace’s Echoverse counterpart. A rare-or-mythic slot and a foil slot that can also hold a rare or mythic mean four mythics are theoretically possible in one pack.
Plante highlighted Echoverse Garruk, Veiled Butcher and Garruk, Curse Breaker, adding the latter to a Multani, Maro-Sorcerer Commander deck. Ghalta the Unstoppable and Verdant Kraken also appealed, while both Vraska versions appeared as an echoed pairing.
Reality Fracture’s pack design and powerful cards could affect Commander players, collectors, and local game stores. Players may feel encouraged to buy more boosters or rebuild decks around chase cards, while store sales and tournament interest might rise. Secondary-market prices for standout cards may climb, potentially making competitive upgrades costlier. The set’s opening experience could also draw lapsed players back, though its long-term influence remains uncertain.
