Leak Reveals Four Clear ModRetro Chromatic Variants
A new leak shows transparent green, red, purple, and smoke/clear versions of the ModRetro Chromatic handheld. The devices reportedly use Gorilla Glass, run original Game Boy and Chromatic cartridges, and support AA batteries or a Power Core. The leak also suggests a price of ¥26,500 and that each unit may include Tetris with link cable support.
A recent leak from yoshitendo on X gathered all four transparent ModRetro Chromatic editions in one place: green, red, purple, and smoke/clear. The clip indicates the handhelds keep the original Chromatic’s dimensions and button arrangement, while switching to Gorilla Glass rather than Sapphire Glass, matching the cheaper second-generation models.
The units reportedly accept included AA batteries or a Power Core and can run both Chromatic cartridges and original Game Boy titles. Each may come with Tetris and link-cable play. The suggested ¥26,500 price is roughly $168/£127, below the metal Chromatic and Analogue Pocket’s standard models. No release date or further specs were shared.
This leak could energize retro-gaming communities by offering a cheaper, colorful entry point into ModRetro’s ecosystem. Collectors and nostalgic players may appreciate transparent shells and Game Boy compatibility, while the bundled Tetris and link-cable support could encourage local multiplayer and social play. If accurate, the lower price may reduce barriers for newcomers and pressure competing handheld makers, though limited availability or unconfirmed details could temper that effect. Fans will likely watch official announcements closely before deciding whether to buy.
