Mafia 3 Now Runs at 60FPS on Xbox Series X and Series S
Mafia 3 has received a free performance upgrade enabling 60 frames per second on Xbox Series X and Series S consoles. The update is currently available for digital owners, though players may need to manually search for the Xbox Series X|S version in the store. The game also qualifies for Xbox's Disc to Digital program, allowing disc owners to access the upgraded version.
Mafia 3 joins a growing list of older titles receiving performance enhancements on current-generation Xbox hardware. The upgrade targets the console's increased processing power, allowing the crime drama to achieve smoother gameplay at double its previous frame rate. Players with physical copies aren't excluded from this improvement, as Hangar 13's title is compatible with Xbox's initiative to convert disc-based ownership into digital licenses.
The rollout follows Hangar 13 and 2K Games' decision to modernize their back catalog for next-gen platforms. Digital purchasers should verify they're downloading the correct version, as the Xbox Store may require active searching rather than automatic updates, potentially creating a brief friction point for some users seeking the enhanced experience.
This upgrade could benefit the substantial player base still engaged with Mafia 3, potentially extending the title's relevance and improving overall experience quality. The news may also encourage other publishers to revisit older games for performance optimization on current hardware. Console owners with disc collections might find additional value in backward compatibility initiatives, though the manual search requirement could limit discoverability and leave some unaware of available improvements.
