BETBOOM stun Spirit as Bucharest upsets continue
BETBOOM beat Spirit 2-1 at PGL Masters Bucharest, winning Ancient 13-3 and Mirage 16-14 after losing Anubis 10-13. Aleksandr "zorte" Zagodyrenko led BETBOOM across all three maps and closed out the series with a 1v3 clutch in overtime. Spirit's Danil "donk" Kryshkovets struggled, finishing with a 0.84 average rating.
BETBOOM’s win over Spirit adds to a pattern in Bucharest, where FUT are the only side among the higher-ranked entrants to have won an opening fixture so far. Spirit’s map choice opened with a slow offensive phase, yet they recovered to take it 13-10, before BETBOOM dominated Ancient 13-3 and edged Mirage 16-14 in overtime.
zorte posted 57-37, 86.2 ADR and a 1.46 rating across the series, then sealed it with a 1v3 in overtime. donk ended at 0.84, with 47-55 and 74.1 ADR, while Boombl4’s Molotov defuse had momentarily put BETBOOM two match points ahead.
This result may affect fans, players, and tournament stakeholders by shifting expectations around favorites and underdogs. Spirit’s early loss could lower confidence among supporters and increase scrutiny on donk and team preparation, while BETBOOM’s win may raise visibility for the roster and its players. For viewers and sponsors, repeated upsets could make group-stage matches more compelling, though it may also complicate predictions and narratives around top-ranked teams.
