Unicorn Overlord director's new action RPG Dawngazer coming to Switch 2

Takafumi Noma, director of Unicorn Overlord, is leading development on Dawngazer, a new action RPG for Nintendo Switch 2. Published by Good Smile, it is the first game in a new IP called Ignisphere, which will expand across multiple media. The title is slated for a 2028 release.
The announcement marks a collaboration between Monochrome and Good Smile Company, timed to Monochrome's 15th anniversary. Noma's hands-on approach, spanning story and character design, carries over from his Unicorn Overlord work. The music team includes Yoshimi Kudo, whose credits include Unicorn Overlord and Elden Ring, with vocal contributions from KOCHO, SAK., and Maki Takimoto, plus cello by Wataru Mukai.
Ignisphere is planned as a cross-media universe from the outset. Multiple light novel projects are already in development through Kadokawa's Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint, while Good Smile will handle merchandising including figures. The teaser trailer debuted alongside an exclusive interview with Noma published on Dengeki Online and Famitsu.com, with the official Ignisphere Twitter account launching the same day.
The announcement signals growing confidence in the Switch 2's long-term software pipeline, with a 2028 release suggesting publishers are committing to the platform well beyond its launch window. The cross-media strategy—spanning games, light novels, and merchandise—reflects an industry trend toward building franchise ecosystems rather than standalone titles. Fans of Unicorn Overlord may find particular interest in Noma's continued creative leadership, though the action RPG genre shift represents a notable departure from his strategy-focused pedigree.
