Capcom Unveils Ace Attorney Dual Destinies VR Remake for Meta Quest
Capcom has announced Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies VR, a remake of the 2013 game designed for Meta Quest headsets. The VR version features hand-tracking and voice-activated 'Objection!' commands, while retaining the original cases and story. It is scheduled for release next year on multiple Meta devices.
The announcement marks a notable shift in how Capcom is approaching its long-running courtroom drama series. Rather than delivering a brand-new installment, the studio is adapting one of its more recent entries for virtual reality, targeting Meta's entire Quest lineup from the older Quest 2 through to the upcoming VR Glasses hardware. The remake preserves the original narrative structure while layering in interactive elements like hand-tracked evidence presentation and voice-driven courtroom outbursts.
This VR adaptation arrives during a period when Capcom has concentrated on re-releasing older Ace Attorney titles in compilation bundles, including entries that previously never left Japan. The only game missing from modern platforms is the 2012 crossover with Professor Layton, though leaked Steam achievements hint that a re-release may be forthcoming. Fans haven't seen an entirely new Ace Attorney adventure since the 2017 spin-off set in the late 19th century.
The VR remake could broaden the Ace Attorney audience by making courtroom drama more immersive and accessible to headset owners who never played the original. Voice-activated objections and hand-tracked evidence presentation may appeal to players seeking more physical engagement with narrative games. However, the decision to remake rather than create a new entry could disappoint longtime fans hoping for fresh stories, potentially affecting community enthusiasm and Capcom's relationship with its most dedicated followers.
