Tyr update expands squads and introduces Core map

Stoke Games' free-to-play tank hero shooter Tyr has received an update adding a new urban map called Core. The patch also raises squad sizes from three to eight players and promises matchmaking with equal team sizes. Other changes include tank balance adjustments, optional removal of Discord clan integration, and new cosmetic-related additions.
Tyr is a free-to-play early access title from Stoke Games, launched at the beginning of September 2026. Its newest patch focuses on scale: the Core map is an urban environment built around narrow passages and sharp corners, which may force players to rethink sightlines and firing positions. It will initially appear more often in random map selection before settling into standard rotation.
The update also lets groups grow from three players to eight, with Stoke Games stating that matchmaking will pair equally sized teams. Additional changes cover tank tuning, an option to disable Discord clan links, gold purchases for cosmetics, and fresh horns and kill effects.
The larger squads and equal-size matchmaking could make Tyr more appealing to players who enjoy coordinated group play, while solo or small-group users may find matches busier and less predictable. The option to remove Discord clan integration and cosmetic gold purchases may affect how communities organize and spend. As an early access free-to-play shooter, its changes may influence player expectations for live-service updates, though broader societal effects are likely confined to gaming audiences.
