Fan-made The Darkness PC port arrives with modern display support

An unofficial PC port of the first The Darkness is now available in a more polished 0.1.2 release. It adds 60 FPS, ultrawide, keyboard-and-mouse support, an FOV slider, and a graphics menu, while fixing Darkness Vision, shadows, and high-resolution tint problems. Players must supply their own Xbox 360 ISO because the recompilation contains no game assets.
The project first surfaced through a reader tip and was initially held back by bugs; version 0.1.2 is presented as a more stable, polished build. It adds 60 FPS, ultrawide support, keyboard-and-mouse controls, an FOV slider, and an in-game graphics menu.
This release also repairs Darkness Vision's golden object glow, fade behavior, and post-cache-miss noise, while addressing shadow flicker, missing small-object shadows, placement errors, and transparent-object shadows. It resolves a green-gray tint above 720p, improves 1080p rendering, adds an optional F8 capture tool, and includes a setup guide. Upgrading from v0.1.1 preserves files, saves, and settings. Because no assets are bundled, players need their own Xbox 360 ISO.
This release may mainly affect preservation-minded PC players and modding communities, who could gain easier access to a console title with modern display and control options—if they already own the required game files. It may also draw more attention to recompilation projects and their reliance on user-supplied assets, potentially prompting wider discussion about ownership, legality, and long-term game availability. Rights holders could view such efforts differently, so the project's social impact likely depends on how fans, platforms, and publishers respond.
